I am new here

Nak tanya, what are the pros and cons of unmarried couples opening up a joint savings account?
My boyfriend and I are thinking of opening up a joint savings account together. We've been together for 4yrs plus now. So thought that we better do some saving up so that we'd have the cash for our engagement/wedding and all. We've thought of opening separate accounts all together but we contribute the same amt together like what/how we'd do with a joint account. Should we want to 'check' on each other's erms diligence in saving up we can just ask one another for the passbook or something. But the thought that we've gone thru so far and both have a common goal, y bother with the checking and all when we can do so on our own with a joint account.
Plus it'll mean something that we've come this far and something or some kinda bond we have by having this joint account. Sounds weird for some but...
Well, I'm asking this question because I get mixed reaction frm ppl when posed the qns. But none really explain why. I'm perplexed. Can someone wise out there share your opinion?
"What might not work with others, might work for you," some friends advice but what are the complications that could derive frm all these? Since a joint account would need both party to be present to do both a withdrawal or whatever not decision.
Would really appreciate some wise sound advice.
Rgds,
